We’re the creators of the original fabric eye patch!

A long, long time ago in a town in California, a small boy was diagnosed with amblyopia. He needed patching and surgery to correct this. Every day, his mother had to put on (and take off!) an adhesive patch for him. After weeks of this process, the boy’s skin blistered and peeled. It was very red and sore. Patching became a painful and sorrowful experience for the little boy and his mother….

But wait! All was not lost. Grandma came to the rescue! She created a fabric patch that would slide onto the boy’s glasses, blocking out the light and making the awful taped patch unnecessary. Aren’t grandmas wonderful? They took the patch to the boy’s ophthalmologist. He was impressed! He said “You should make these and sell them so other families could benefit from them.” So, we did! We’ve been making our patches for more than 30 years now. They’ve been copied, imitated, but never equaled. The original and best eye patch is here for you!

And the moral to our story is:  Grandmas are AWESOME- and so are our patches!

What is lazy eye?

Lazy eye is caused by amblyopia and/or strabismus. These conditions affect the eye’s ability to see-either from weak eye muscles (amblyopia) or inability to focus (strabismus).

Why do we need to patch?

Patching blocks out light in the good eye and encourages the weak eye to work harder to focus. This process strengthens the weak eye and improves vision.

How long will this take?

The usual course of treatment is about 18 months, but can be shorter or longer depending on your child’s needs.

Why are iwear patches the best option?

Iwear patches are comfortable, cute, and cost effective. Children love the colors and designs. They also love not having adhesive patches! Skin irritation and discomfort are a thing of the past. Fun designs on soft, comfortable patches make compliance a breeze. Iwear patches are washable and can be used for the entire course of treatment (much more cost effective than adhesive patches- also, much better for our planet). Patching is the most effective treatment for lazy eye, producing better results than other options (frosted lenses or atropine drops). Iwear patches are the original and best patches avaliable.

How to care for iWear patches

iWear patches are made from 100% warp knit nylon fabric with polyester foam core and jersey tricot knit backing. iWear patches can be machine washed and dryed. This fabric is flame resistant, machine washable and dryable, tear and breakage resistant, and will not shirink.
